The Collision Industry Conference continues today in Las Vegas, and we’re going to help repairers who aren’t there or attending other SEMA Show events keep up with the final half-day of action.

The event will formally get underway at 8:05 a.m. with the CIC Industry Awards. Following that comes the Repairer/Insurer Relations Committee at 9:05 a.m., discussing “A new method for measuring cycle time,” according to CIC.

An interesting consensus around cycle time arose at the July CIC in Detroit. Panelists and the audience then seemed to agree estimates of when a customer’s collision repair will be finished would be much more accurate if done after the vehicle teardown and the shop had worked out the parts logistics.

At that point, ETAs for repairs would be correct about 90 percent of the time instead of the discrepancies being seen today, participants said.

Toby Chess of the Technical Committee will discuss riveting and bonding at 9:45 a.m., and the Governmental Committee will follow at 10:20 a.m. to discuss relevant legislative factors. David Newton-Ross, editor of the National Collision Repairer, will discuss collision repair in Australia at 10:30 a.m.

The open mic session will also be today, so make sure to stick around.
