Incoming Chairman Guy Bargnes, the first supplier to lead the Collision Industry Conference, highlighted the conference’s unique nature and value as a means of communication.

“I believe in CIC,” he said, pointing out its unusual format as a largely self-directed gathering with a four-point mission statement centered around civil discussion.

“Simple, vital, but absolutely necessary,” said Bargnes, the senior vice president of sales and marketing for Painters Supply and Equipment.

Bargnes noted that while his segment hadn’t been traditionally represented (CIC organizer Jeff Hendler confirmed Barnes was indeed the first supplier chairman), it interacted with many of the other industries represented at CIC as customers.

“I believe in the great power of knowledge and information that takes place between customer and supplier,” Bargnes said.

He explained that this wasn’t a reference to product information. He meant “core” ideas. “Primary information.”

“The kind of information that you can use to make decisions and you can use to set business strategies,” he continued. “… If I have one objective or one goal as chair, its to help create or to continue to create this concept of ‘information winners.'”

By information winners, he meant CIC participants who could can take what they learned in the room or “out in the hall,” and use it to be more aware of external trends or to be more competitive.

Bargnes’ two-year term as CIC Chairman begins in January. Outgoing Chairman Randy Stabler, president of Pride Collision Centers, will oversee the SEMA CIC Day 2 on Wednesday.
