Hyundai updates language in pre and post-repair scan position statement to say ‘required’
By onAnnouncements
A newly released Hyundai position statement “requires” a pre-repair scan and post-repair scan on vehicles equipped with electronic components and systems following a collision.
The statement, released in June, replaces a 2018 position statement that said the procedures were “recommended.”
“Hyundai Motor America requires a pre-repair scan to ensure safe and accurate repairs and also a post-repair scan to ensure all systems and components are functioning, calibrated and communicating properly with NO diagnostic trouble codes present,” the new position statement says.
The statement says it is important that vehicles involved in a collision have a pre-repair scan and a post-repair scan so that repairers are aware of any diagnostic trouble codes that may be present, regardless of if a warning light or malfunction indicator light is illuminated.
It states that pre-repair scan will alert the repairer to diagnostic trouble codes or items that may be malfunctioning within the vehicle. It also says this aids the repairer to develop more accurate repair estimates prior to beginning repairs. The post-repair system scan confirms that systems are functioning properly and calibrated.
“Hyundai values customer safety and requires the collision industry follow the guidelines above for completing pre-repair and post-repair scans to achieve safe and quality repairs,” the position says.
