BAR Workshop on proposed repair shop storage fees

The California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) will hold a workshop July 18 on proposed changes to how repair shops charge for vehicle storage.

The proposed regulations include:

1. 1) Requiring shops to report their daily storage rates to BAR;
2. Mandating BAR to publicly post daily vehicle storage rates at a given locale;
3. Prohibiting shops from charging storage fees exceeding CHP rates if no repairs have been performed;
4. Restricting shops from charging storage fees while vehicle is undergoing repairs;
5. Implementing new restrictions on storing a vehicle at alternative locations; and
6. Introducing additional notification requirements for vehicle tear down or disassemble.

BAR encourages all California auto repair shops to join the meeting and actively participate.
