Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe recently announced the appointment of a former AAA Missouri vice president as the director of the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance (DCI).

Angela L. Nelson, previously served as AAA Misosouri’s vice president of Public Affairs and Government Relations, according to a release from Kehoe’s office. Nelson will start in her role at DCI March 1, following a Missouri Senate confirmation.

“I am pleased to have Angela joining my cabinet to lead the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance,” said Governor-Elect Kehoe. “With her extensive industry experience, she is uniquely equipped to lead the department. I am confident that, together, we can promote fairness, transparency, and protect Missouri consumers.”

Nelson started her career as an insurance agent, the release says. She later worked as a regulator with DCI as the department’s director of Market Regulation Division and as the director of the Consumer Affairs Division.

The release adds Nelson has held roles with health, property and casualty insurance companies.

DCI also recently announced Tyler Hobbs as its new legislative director. Hobbs started in the position Jan. 13. He previously served as the legislative director for the Office of the Governor.

“I am excited about the opportunity to continue serving Missourians as the Legislative Director for the Department of Commerce and Insurance,” Hobbs said.  “I look forward to diving deeper into complex policy issues impacting Missouri and its business community and helping our state prosper under Governor Kehoe’s leadership.”
